Chesterfield Embroidery – About Us

Chesterfield Embroidery is a well established business offering high quality embroidery on a range of garments and other items. We also offer garment and gift printing and a design service.

The company started in 1988, originally on Pottery Lane. Colin Tomlin was made redundant from his engineering job, but having seen an embroidery machine in action thought this was something he could make a go of. He bought a six head machine – which has only just been replaced!

In 2001 Colin was joined by Chris, who was working in a joinery unit nearby, and offered to help out when Colin’s daughter was on holiday. Chris was supposed to stay for two weeks, but this stretched in to months then years. Colin and Chris became good friends, then romance bloomed and they married in 2003.

They worked together seven days a week, and the business continued to grow. The unit moved to Devonshire Buildings and then to Staveley, where it is now. Sadly, Colin became ill in late 2011. He and Chris talked about the future and Colin was keen that Chris kept the business going. He passed away on New Year’s Eve, and Chris is now carrying on.

Chris loves the business and enjoys what she does very much. She had always enjoyed hand embroidery and crafts, so was in her element when Colin asked her to stay on back in 2001. Chesterfield Embroidery still has some of its existing customers from 1988. Long term clients include ….JuJitsu and Chesterfield Canal Trust.
